In a landmark ruling[1] Colombia’s Supreme Court has decriminalized the cultivation of up to 20 cannabis plants, making it no longer a criminal or civil offense.

In Colombia, the possession of up to 20 grams of cannabis was decriminalized in 2012, though the cultivation of cannabis wasn’t. In their ruling the Court threw out a charge against a man who was caught with a recently cut plant that weighed 124 grams.

The Court ruled that since the cannabis was for personal use, it’s not a crime, and that anyone else in the country that cultivates up to 20 plants is also not committing a crime.

The new rule sets immediate precedent across the nation.
